Orange Banksia - Banksia burdettii seeds

This species of small tree or large shrub has striking flower spikes that range in color from yellow, orange, to apricot.

Its flowering season runs from January to May and is found naturally in the sandplain regions of Gingin, Western Australia.

For optimal growth, it prefers well-drained sandy soils and a sunny, open location. Drought and frost-resistant, it should not be planted in waterlogged soils.

The best time to sow Banksia seeds is in autumn or spring. Place them 5mm deep in a well-draining growing medium and transplant once they are ready.

Keep the soil consistently damp, but be careful not to overwater as this can cause rot.

To improve success rates, pre-treatment of smoke or sowing in a closed container with vermiculite may be beneficial, especially during winter months.

Note that this pre-treatment is not essential, but may result in quicker germination. If your seeds do not germinate immediately, do not discard them as they may take a little longer than advised due to environmental factors.
