Common name: Bulloak, Buloke, Bull Oak, Bull Sheoak, Bull-oak

5 - 15m height.

This flowering plant from Casuarinaceae family is found only in the southeastern part of Australia.

It has a rough, deeply fissured bark and branches that point upwards.

Allocasuarina luehmannii typically grows sparsely in woodland areas, ranging from Mareeba to central Queensland, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, northwestern Victoria, and nearby regions in South Australia. It is rarely seen near the coast, except in the Hunter Valley and near Rockhampton.

This tree is a crucial food source for the endangered red-tailed black cockatoo subspecies in the Wimmera region of western Victoria.

Buloke wood is commonly used to make high-quality knife handles, flooring, and fine furniture, and is one of the world's hardest woods with a Janka hardness rating of 16,740 N (3,760 lbf).

The tree is able to adapt to a wide range of heavy soils, including sandy clays, and can survive short periods of brief seasonal inundation.

This Buloke tree is resilient, withstanding drought, frost, strong winds, and saline soil.

It serves as a valuable medium-level cover for windbreaks, providing partial shade. Its delicate foliage expertly filters the summer sun and restricts its harsh rays, while also providing a protective cover during the winter.

With its beneficial suckering abilities, it is particularly useful in land reclamation efforts, stabilizing the soil surface with its "leaf" litter and improving soil fertility through nitrogen fixation.
