This attractive strappy leaf perennial has an underground rhizome, making it a hardy and low maintenance plant.

Its purple-blue flowers bloom in spring through summer and are held up above the foliage. While the flowers only last a day, a well-cultivated plant will produce a good number throughout the season, making it a valuable addition to any landscaping or garden.

Varieties with white flowers are also available in addition to the purple-blue ones. Known by the Noongar name "komma," this plant belongs to the Iridaceae family and has a clumping, grass-like growth habit.

It thrives in loamy, sandy loam, clay loam, and even poor soils and can withstand warm and cool temperate zones as well as Mediterranean climates. Its evergreen foliage and ability to thrive in dry, well-drained soils make it suitable for playgrounds.

Its scientific name is Patersonia occidentalis and it is commonly known as Native Iris, with a height 0.6 and width of 0.5.
