As an endemic tree or mallee in south-eastern Australia, Eucalyptus arenacea, also known as desert stringybark or sand stringybark.

It is characterized by rough bark on all branches, elongated or curved mature leaves, clustered flower buds consisting of seven to fifteen heads, white flowers, and hemispherical to nearly spherical fruit.

With multiple stems or a sturdy mallee, this species can reach a height of 3-10 meters (10-30 feet) and forms a lignotuber.

It is found primarily on light-colored sandhills and sandplains in regions including Keith, Pinaroo, Bordertown in the Ninety Mile Desert of South Australia, the Little Desert and Big Desert areas of Victoria.

Flowering takes place mainly in December and January, with white blooms emerging.
