Animalia Art Australia Echidna
We Echidnas, together with the Platypus are the world’s only monotremes, or egg-laying mammals. We look fearsome, but are shy and would rather retreat than fight if disturbed. We curl into a ball, with our snouts and legs tucked beneath us and our sharp spines sticking out.
Like the Platypus, the males of our species have a hollow spur on their back leg. While a male Platypus can use this spur to inject poison into would-be attackers, we Echidnas do not have this ability.
