Hakea laurina
Common name: Pin cushion hakea
A majestic small tree to large shrub, reaching heights of 4-5m and boasting a typically bluish hue, Hakea laurina is a widely esteemed plant, renowned for its captivating floral display.
A sunny spot is recommended for optimal flowering, with budding beginning in late summer and blooms opening from late autumn through winter.
Though it will grow in partial shade, flowering and growth habit are diminished. Hardy enough to tolerate frost, however, tender new growth may sustain slight damage.
Noteworthy for its beauty, this specimen can be enjoyed in full sunlight, and makes a gorgeous cut flower. A veritable magnet for birds, too.
