Common name: Bottle brush - (some herbaria are calling this Melaleuca citrina)

3-4m

Callistemons are exclusively found in the wild on the Australian continent, but are also widely grown in other countries as several half-hardy species that can adapt well to garden treatment.

Their unique showy appearance, with massed stamens instead of petals, makes them a sought-after novelty in cooler climates.

When grown as pot plants under glass in regions where they cannot survive outdoors, the Crimson Bottlebrush is highly valued.

This shrub, native to swampy areas of Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland, can even grow into a small tree with optimal conditions in cultivation.

Its striking bright red flowers, tipped with dark anthers, are known to cross with other species nearby, resulting in beautiful color variations. Furthermore, hybrid forms are often discovered in the bush.

The special attraction of this bottle brush is its ability to bloom twice a year when well watered. In years of extreme weather conditions, such as heat waves and cold spells, flowering may be sparse.

It flowers from early November, its autumn blooms are a delight from late March. This vibrant red adds a refreshing pop to the summer heat and a warm touch to the chilly winter.

Callistemon Citrinus may be planted in any position or soil including really wet conditions or by the sea.
