Casuarina cristata, also known as "Belah," is a splendid flowering plant from inland eastern Australia.

Belah is a dioecious, medium-sized tree that can reach heights of 10-20 meters.

It is endemic to the Brigalow ecological community, which is endangered.

With its fissured or scaly bark and drooping branchlets,

Belah adds a touch of elegance to low-lying areas of plain country.

This tree thrives in heavy alkaline clay soils and well-drained loamy soils, but does not do well in deep sandy soils.

It is a useful and fast-growing shelter tree for livestock and is excellent for erosion control as it can sucker from its roots.

The attractive, large seed pods also make great decorations.
