Common name: Emu bush or Milly Milly Lipstick

 

Eremophila laanii, a tall and majestic shrub reaching up to 4 metres, it is a native of Western Australia.

It can be found along the western coast and inland areas north of Perth, extending towards Binnu and Woolgorong, and as far north as Carnarvon.

This unique species thrives in mallee-shrubland and heathland environments, favouring sandy soils and often found on floodplains and riverbanks.

Its long, narrow, and succulent leaves alternate to spiral, and are a deep shade of green or green-blue in colour.

Additionally, its 5-petaled flowers are fused into a tube and occur in small clusters along the leaf axils, blooming profusely from August to January.

In the garden, E. laanii can provide a stunning natural screen and does well in various climates as long as the soil is well-drained and receives ample sunlight. It's also a favorite of honeyeaters,
