Common name: Scarlet Bottlebrush, Fiery Bottlebrush or Lesser Bottlebrush - ( Some herbaria use the name Melaleuca phoenicea)

3m high x 2m wide.

C. phoeniceus can be found naturally in Western Australia, thriving in low areas and near bodies of water from the Swan River to the Murchison River, with its range extending to the Norseman region.

In the esteemed Australian National Botanic Gardens, it forms a regal, sprawling shrub reaching heights of 3 meters and a width of 2 meters.

Its stunning scarlet flower clusters, measuring 10 to 15 cm, are tipped with a deep hue and grow at the ends of graceful, slender stems.

This species blooms in November and December, with a potential second blooming in late summer if conditions allow.

Its sharp, narrow leaves measure 3-7 cm, are thick and rigid, and end in a short spine.

The striking blue-green color serves as a beautiful contrast to the vibrant hues of the flowers.

Although it is native to a dry summer climate, Callistemon phoeniceus has shown successful growth in the wetter summer conditions of Australia's east coast.

It thrives in a warm, sunny environment with well-draining medium to heavy soil and is even salt tolerant.

The plant benefits from annual fertilization after its spring flowering and can be pruned if necessary.

While it can handle less than perfect drainage, it truly flourishes in gardens with good drainage and regular access to water.

This hardy and easily grown shrub is unaffected by frost and no pests have been observed in the Gardens.

Its stunning flowers also attract nectar-feeding birds, making it an ideal choice for rejuvenation projects, windbreaks, and screening.

Not only does it add beauty to your garden, but Callistemon phoeniceus also provides a cozy habitat for small birds during their nesting season.
