Common name: River saltbush or Swamp saltbush

2.5m

River saltbush is a multi-branched shrub with a range of forms, from prostrate to erect.

Its branches spread out along the ground and may even take root, particularly in its prostrate form.

The leaves are a beautiful bluish-green, with a delicate covering of fine silvery hairs.

There is a vast variation in their size and shape, often with a spear-like appearance and measuring between one and three centimeters in length.

Male and female flowers can be found on separate plants, with the purplish-green male flowers clustered at the end of branches and the female flowers usually gathering in the axils between leaves and stems.

The fruit is a small, woody case, approximately five millimeters long, each containing a single seed.

Enhance your land's rehabilitation with the highly salt tolerant river saltbush, a sought-after staple in Australia. I

Stunning blooms in July/August. Its preferred habitats include white or grey sandy soils, as well as coastal dunes, salt marshes and lakes, and floodplains with sandy clay.

Flourishing even in saline soil, it boasts the best long-term survival and growth in its class. In addition, it exhibits remarkable drought tolerance and adapts to waterlogging once fully matured.

Perfect for sheep grazing, studies have revealed that the meat of sheep fed on river saltbush is rich in Vitamin E and highly desirable to consumers.
