This small shrub belongs to the Fabaceae family and is highly regarded for its stunning pea-flowers.
It originates from various regions in Western Australia, such as Avon Wheatbelt, Esperance Plains, Jarrah Forest, Mallee, Swan Coastal Plain, and Warren the Southwest.
It thrives in well-drained, light to medium soils and is tolerant of drought and frost.
While its seeds can be sown throughout the year in many parts of Australia, it is recommended to sow them during spring or autumn, avoiding the coldest and hottest months.
The optimal temperature for germination is between 18-22°C, and although the seeds germinate easily, they have a tough outer coating that requires abrasion or pre-treatment with boiling water to break through.
Simply soak the seeds in just-boiled water overnight, and any seeds that have not expanded should be treated again. Sow the seeds 4mm deep, keep the soil warm and moist, and expect germination in two to four weeks.
