An elegant and exclusive tree with a weeping habit, A. stenophylla gracefully tolerates saline, alkaline, and waterlogged soils, even surviving periodic flooding.
It can be found along the Murray River in South Australia and Victoria, and through western New South Wales, Northern Territory, and Queensland.
Typically found along watercourses, A. stenophylla provides a striking backdrop, often alongside eucalyptus and casuarina trees.
The species has a high salt tolerance and can endure moderate frost and drought. Even with an average minimum annual rainfall of 400 mm per year, A. stenophylla thrives in the open-forest, woodland or low woodland habitat.
In the understorey, it may be accompanied by A. salicina and A. pendula, as well as E. populnea and C. cristata.
Typically single-stemmed with pendulous branchlets, this tree can reach up to 20 m tall with a rounded crown.
Acacia stenophylla has a lifespan of over 50 years.
Its bark is dark grey to blackish and has a rough texture, while its branchlets are smooth or slightly fuzzy and can appear angular.
The delicate creamy-white to pale yellow flower heads often bloom irregularly, with most flowers appearing in the autumn months.
