Common name: Bottle Tree, Queensland Bottle Tree, Queensland-Flaschenbaum, or the Narrowleaf Bottle Tree

15m high x 15m wide.

Small to medium sized tree with a characteristic bulbous trunk which gives rise to the common name.

Bell-shaped blooms are followed by seed pods that contain numerous large seeds.

This splendid tree is ideal for expansive lawns or grand parks and gardens.

It requires ample space, as it can reach considerable size.

A slow-growing tree, it may take 5-8 years for its bottle-shaped trunk to emerge.

Brachychiton rupestris belongs to the Sterculiaceae family. It will shed its leaves before the blooming season, which falls between October and December.

It thrives in a soil of medium to heavy clay, silt, sand, and volcanic rocks. Despite its hardiness, this tree can adapt to various climates and soil types.

The name "bottle tree" is quite literal, as there is significant water stored between the inner bark and the trunk. Historically, Aboriginals carved holes into the soft bark to create reservoir-like structures.

The seeds, roots, stems, and bark have all been utilized as sources of food for people and animals alike.
