Common name: Scarlet pear gum, Stoate's mallee

2-7.5m

Eucalyptus stoatei, also known as scarlet pear gum or Stoate's mallee, is a tree indigenous to the southern coast of Western Australia.

Growing to heights between 2 and 7.5 meters, the tree boasts smooth white or grey-brown bark and a graceful, slender appearance.

Its delicate blossoms bloom from July to February, displaying stunning conflorescences with dainty yellow flowers.

Unlike most Eucalypts, E. stoatei relies almost entirely on bird pollination, specifically honeyeaters, rather than insects, as the stamens form an impenetrable dome over the floral cup, preventing insect access.

This unique tree can be found in a small area between Ravensthorpe and Esperance, Western Australia, thriving in gravelly sand, clay, or loam soils.

The majority of its population is concentrated east of Ravensthorpe, extending south to the edges of Pyramid Lake.
