Sturt's desert pea, a well-known Australian wildflower, stands out in the Pea family with its deep scarlet and red keel and wings, each flower 90 mm long and grouped in 5 or 6 during late spring and summer.

Often grown as an annual, it is found only in the arid regions of Australia and serves as the floral emblem of South Australia.

Preferring a light to medium well-drained soil in a sunny position, it is both drought and frost resistant.

Growing instructions: While the seeds can be sown year-round in most of Australia, it is best to plant them in spring or autumn in temperate climates, avoiding extreme temperatures.

Germination occurs best in temperatures between 18-24°C, and while Swaisona seeds typically germinate easily, their hard outer coating makes it difficult for water to penetrate.

To help the seeds absorb moisture, scarify seeds then soak them in hot water for 5-10 seconds before planting.
