Common name: Australian saltbush, berry saltbush, or creeping saltbush

Atriplex semibaccata is a luxurious flowering plant from the Amaranthaceae family, endemic to Australia.

Originating from Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland, and New South Wales, it has now spread to other states and even overseas countries.

Its delicate blooms and fruits adorn the spring season, adding to its exclusivity.

This elegant saltbush is specifically adapted to thrive in varying climatic conditions and poor soil, making it a valuable asset for rehabilitation, medicinal purposes, and as a cover crop and fodder.

However, its introduction to other countries has had a significant environmental and economic impact, as it has been used as a drought and salt-resistant crop in various regions and even for grazing in Tasmania.

Even in the harshest conditions, this saltbush flourishes, as seen in its natural habitat nestled in heavy, slightly saline soils, surrounded by woodlands near salt lakes.

Atriplex semibaccata is a taproot perennial herb with prostrate and decumbent characteristics.

This mat-forming plant can reach a height of 40-80 cm and spread up to 2m, creating a dense and fire-retardant ground cover.

It flowers and fruits in spring and summer in most of Australia, but in Western Australia, the flowering season can last longer.
