Common name: Narrow-leaved emu bush or Narrow-leaved poverty bush

1-4 meters

Eremophila alternifolia, also known as the emu bush or poverty bush, is a member of the Scrophulariaceae family and is native to the western regions of New South Wales, the southern parts of the Northern Territory, and the southern half of Western Australia.

With its varying growth form, leaf shape, and flower color, this shrub adds a touch of uniqueness to any landscape.

Its leaves were traditionally used by Aboriginal Australians to treat various ailments, and recent studies have shown they contain compounds that affect the heart.

The plant's beautiful purple, red, pink, white, cream, or yellow flowers bloom from early winter to early autumn, adding a pop of color to the dry and arid landscapes where it thrives.

This attractive shrub is a popular choice for gardens, especially in dry climates, as it is both drought-resistant and a favorite among birds.

It can also tolerate moderate levels of frost, but requires well-drained soil and plenty of sunlight.
